Deutschland: Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit. Germany in pictures.
Germany, Germany, what can we say?
Here’re a few pics instead of a thousand words…
Church in the mountains
Orthodox church nestled in the hills of Munstertaal
For the fallen (Gemany) we didn't see many
War memorial in the graveyard of the orthodox church in Munstertaal - a beautifully manicured graveyard where we met an old couple who chattered at us happily, unaware that we didn't understand anything
watching over you
Despite being atheist, something has always fascinated me about angels. As a child, I had a book of prayers with many illustrations similar to this one. I'm drawn to them now.
Cool statue outside the church in Munstertaal
rest area to take in the twistys of the black foast
The hills of the Black Forest
Black forest twisties. we were there
Katie enjoys the views during a well earned rest after lots of twisties in the Black forest, just outside Todtnau
taking in whats around us. spotted some abandoned water tanker
M spotted a rusty old water tower somewhere in the Black forest on our way from Todtnau. So we stopped for a pic or two - beautiful spot!
Head-down spot in Sigmarengen. Just prior to summer camp arriving :/
Katie writing her throughts
Camp...not quite got the system down yet and our method is empty everything everywhere...we've since refined!
keeping warm when not used
Uberlingen, just prior to the mother of all storms screaming in across lake Konstanz, the clanging of the boat bells heralding the onslaught.
before the storm
Uberlingen. We just can't beat the rain. After a bright and promising start it hits us again with a vengeance that feels personal
Moody Alps in Fussen
keep it steady I reckon I'll make it
Beautiful turquoise lake just outside Fussen. Complete with sophisticated navigation system and hydration system ;)
Hotel to the rescue in Gauting, just outside Munich. Not much in the town but the hotel was a lovely spot
sunset from the digs
View from out balcony in Gauting, not a campsite in site and just outside Munich, we stopped for the night in this lovely little find.
Dedicated underground parking in Gauting, so it's a hotel, but it was a Sunday and not a sign of a campsite
Surreal campsite in Langwiedesee, just outside Munich
Badsee camping, found after enquiring at a garage, understood enough to pick up signs and then followed them to a lovely quiet spot with a lake. Unfortunately no cash, so back out again on the bikes for a bit of fun to Isny
great idea for disused call boxes
Great idea for a campsite library, another lovely nature spot just outside Isny in Beuren
katie's reading tree
A beautiful old reading tree on the lake at Badsee
Carnet pick-up day!
still trying work out what's what...lol
Mickey game out of the gents wanting money...when he told me what it was for I had to close the bank ;)
great campsite (didn't see that coming)
Dedicated parking in the Wild wild west
Beautiful find in Kuntsdorf just outside Berglengensfeld...just as our hopes of discovering a campsite were fading Katie spotted a fleeting glimpse of a sign at the side of the road
you meet the nicest people
A lovely couple who show us that you don't need to be embedded in a house to show hospitality. Little English on their part, little German on ours but somehow we managed to have a good conversation over a good cup of coffee and a slice of cheesecake - awesome people!
all smiles when wet
Rain stops play again. another great little find at the side of the road. Time was getting on and the fairies turned our bikes this way, gut feeling carries you a long way when travelling. We stayed an extra day when we woke up to this weather. In Juchhoh, just outside Hof
not a good time
A quiet moment caught off-guard in Pension Juchhoh on it's nostalgia-inducing Brocade, wooden-armed sofa
so far away
Beautiful spot in Schildau, just outside Tordau. Marred only by a big party next to the tent and children shouting and using the tent as a tag shield at 10 pm at night. Awesome yoga in the company of herons in the morning though ;)
View out of our tent after a disturbed night sleep. It went a long way to make up for the disturbance
having a moment enjoying
Katie enjoying a quiet moment with the lake, herons, fish, baby duckies and snakes abound. blissful spot.
Katie putting up our home.
best doorway to your room
Our digs for the night...another night of fruitless searching leads to Mickey asking in a restaurant "you can stay here" comes the response. A whole apartment all to ourselves for only 43 Euros per night. The smell of the wood as you walked through this boathouse entrance to the apartment was highly evocative
big stretch at sunset
Happy days at the boathouse - feeling rather smug
waiting for Mickey
Katie stops for a quick rest while Mickey takes pictures just outside Stahndorf after a lovely walk through forest from the campsite to Lidl
The Brandenburg Tor needs no introduction
we must rebuild
The ever-relentless push of progress
they will fit onto the bike
Katie looks pleased as she remembered why she worked so hard to cram those leftover beers into her panniers. Just outside Berlin on the West, we stayed in Wannsee for 6 nights at a campsite that we later found had been an East/West border checkpoint.
Our very own benevolent Treebeard at the campsite in Wannsee. After observing the shade spots over the next few days we realised we'd 'expertly' picked the best spot on the campsite (K just loves trees)
Berlin memorial for the dead of the Great wars, a beautiful and reflective spot, a fitting memorial
chill out talk shite place
A cool little hippie spot in the centre of Berlin where we stopped for an ice coffee
funky look is in on the train
An old skool Berliner carriage on the U-Bahn
hello little fella
Spotted in Berlin. It's amazing what you see in a city when you look up.
one for the birdy
Campsite selfie! Getting the hang of this travelling lark by now and feeling super chilled
Some big houses just outside the second campsite in Wannsee, Berlin. Some of the residents obviously feel the need for burglar deterrents...we were somewhat bemused...or maybe they're just fans of The Village People??
